Weekend Fun with the dogs!

We had an action packed weekend! Dog Show, Herding, a BBQ, a couple photo shoots (those photos to come later this week) ...

Saturday we headed to Calgary for the FCR Regional Specialty Show - K can show as a vet now -the only way he can show being neutered. K had a fun day and placed 3rd in Vet Sweeps, 2nd in his regular Vet male class, and 1st in Working Dog. The best rewards came after, a kiddie pool and a cool chuckit toy he won!
Thanks to Amanda for taking all the great photos! Our friend Liz at Blazingstar took home the Best of Breed with Tinbie and Best of Opposite with Pipit! Way to go!

Back on the road Sunday morning for a herding lesson at PhantomRidge...

Amanda took these great photos for me.
Go ahead, make my day!!! I thought this stand off photo was funny! which was are you going to go Gyppie? This was my attempt to keep balance on the sheep and Gyp.
I was happy with how Gyp did. She didn't once get pouty and her lay downs were really good! I was actually able to lie her down multiple times and still have her stay keen - a little too keen sometimes - even the waving stick didn't freak her out much. She was however, working really far from the sheep at times which made the sheep go too fast away from me, for me to do anything with. Louanne took me into a corner to work her to encourage her to come back in and that really helped. Her COME BY is really good, but AWAY TO ME she goes really wide and it is by far her weaker side. By the end after she had a run in with the sheep, and it jumped on her ... she seemed to settle in to where she was her last lesson and we ended on a good note, finding balance and did a couple baby outruns and drove back down the arena back and forth a couple times. I was exhausted at the end of our lesson! We don't do it with the goal of ever competing, I just like to see Gyp's courage increase and learn something new, AND it is a fun way to spend time with her!!
True multi-tasking: sitting, laying down and stalking all at once!

The BEST dog toy ever!

I always bring a toy with me when I run the dogs in the fields. Not so much so they can play fetch, but so I can distract Gyp if she gets all weird. Yes, Gyp gets weird. If Kaleb starts alerting on birds and circling - and heaven forbid flushes one, Gyp wants to GET OUT OF TOWN - she has even bee-lined all the way back to the car because she was so freaked out, she also hates walking in the dense brush. So I bring a ball with me to distract her and she gets over her phobia pretty darn quick.

Today however, I forgot the toy in the truck. DAMMIT. Gyp started to get weird about 10 minutes into our walk, and we were too far to go back and get the toy. She starts to get farther away from me and gets slower and her ears get all twitchy and her eyes won't focus on me. Oh crap I thought.

Think Sarah, think.

I had a moment of brilliance. I would like to introduce the newest and bestest dog toy around , I am sure it will catch on like wild fire.

I am proud to introduce, the Leash-Ball [TM]...

Gyp loves the Leash-ball [TM]!

She'll never get scared, ever again!

Let's see if Kaleb likes it ....

Duh, of course he does.

meanwhile, Jane looks on
"Losers. Seriously, who plays with a leash ..."
don't dis it until you try it, Jane...
hmmm if those Losers like it ... maybe I'll try it ...

If it's good enough for Jane, anyone will like it ....

Look! It's Terrier approved! That means your dog will love it too!
Go get your Leash Ball [TM] TODAY!

stumped.

So I have nothing to blog about.... bloggers block?

We've been busy training (getting ready for nationals), teaching three nights a week and working, but I just don't feel like writing about it!

I'm stumped.

Kaleb is stumped too...
Gyp has some ideas, but mostly, she is stumped.

Jane won't give me any ideas, so I assume she is stumped too.

We have a crazy busy weekend: Flat-coat Regional Specialty Dog Show, a photo shoot, Herding with Gyp, a BBQ with friends and a Baby Shower... maybe I'll have some COOL things to write about next week!

The end.

jane's gone fishin'

We spent the weekend in Kananaskis with the dogs and some friends...

Jane was glad we planned a fishing trip on her behalf. Everyone needs a retirement job, right? If only Jane had thumbs, she would have her own rod I am sure.

i wish for a fish, i wish for a fish ...

fish?

fish?

oooooh did you catch a fish?

still waiting ... for a fish.

maybe we'll catch a fish from the canoe ....

keep paddling woman! I need some fish!

maybe I'll catch a fish from the log!? Look I see a fish! I see a fish!

so much water, so little time ...

stay tune for more photos from our adventure...

This is how dogs celebrate Canada Day, eh!

We hung out with the dogs of Blazingstar on Canada Day ...

"Ma, Pipit stealed my water WUBBA, make her give it back!"
... Kaleb it's not nice to tattle.

Tinbie didn't see a thing... he doesn't tattle, and Tally wonders were she can get one too!

"Ma, Tally got the toy, I want, I want!"

Wet Kaleb, eh.

The dogs protested the Wubba being put away, especially Gyp!

The Terrier Handbag, this summers hottest trend.

In large groups (where she doesn't know all the dogs) Jane has to wear her muzzle, as she does not give dogs a chance when they run up to her, and she doesn't know to walk away either. With the muzzle on I don't have to have my eyes on her the whole time. She relaxes too and realizes the dogs are just thiere to make friends and her snarls don't get her anywhere. DId I also mention, she doesn't swim well? Hence the lifejacket ... And it was a good thing she was wearing it as the current nearly swept her away, in an attempt to let her swim across the channel, so we carried her over the rough spots, and she did swim across a couple of the small channels.

Jane made Tinbie's day by having a 5 second game of chase.

Tinbie remembered his chances are better with Gyp!
